Applying fungicide to greens after rain

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

I The weather this fall has been rather mild and very dry. The course has been in good shape. There has been some negative commits about the bunkers, unfortunately the dry weather and low humidity has caused the sand to dry out and become fluffy. There has not been any sand added to the bunkers and the depth of the sand is checked regularly to make sure the proper amount of sand is in the bunkers. We have just got 3.5” of rain in late December. With the added moisture you will see a huge improvement. It must be noted that although we have some of the highest quality bunker sand available, as moisture in the sand changes the consistency will change. The crews work diligently to maintain the moisture in the bunkers without making the areas around the bunkers too wet.

We have installed tree lighting along the entrance to the club. The lighting is the final phase of our new entrance project. The renovation of the back of the building has started and the concrete from the parking lot to the large putting green (including the cart staging area) will be replaced in January and February. Please be patient with the inconvenience of this project, we will work to manage the flow of traffic during this project.

Lastly we continue to work on the plans for course improvements coming this summer. The improvements will include tee leveling, the addition of some new tees, the replacement of bridges on 14 and 16 blue, removal of Bermuda grass encroachment into the greens, leveling of several fairways, reshaping creek and lake banks, and replacement of some cart paths that are broken. We will be adding updates to the course update page on our website.

Thank you,
